Mast Group Ltd. are looking to recruit a Laboratory Technician to join the QC Laboratory team based in Deeside with a requirement to travel to Bootle a few times per week on a 6-month fixed term contract.
Mast Group Ltd. is a leading international manufacturer and supplier of medical diagnostics products for the diagnosis of infectious disease. Our products are used throughout the UK and worldwide. The job holder will be an integral part of the team, ensuring development, evaluation and registration of products for diagnostic microbiology.
We require a Laboratory Technician to work alongside other experienced member of the team within a multi-disciplined environment.
THE ROLE
• Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and comply with relevant scientific
and regulatory standards within the Quality Control Laboratory.
• Participate in daily laboratory workload meetings and contribute to team coordination
to ensure all tasks are completed by the end of each shift.
• Attend weekly Quality Control (QC) and training meetings.
• Independently organise and manage assigned workload, ensuring clarity on all testing
tasks to be performed.
• Maintain adequate supplies of sterile consumables (e.g., pipette tips, loops, prepared
culture media) for daily use. Collect, sort, and reconcile deliveries against outstanding
orders.
• Wash, rinse, dry, and return all glassware and reusable containers used in the
preparation of dehydrated culture media, solutions, and other laboratory reagents to
their designated storage.
• Keep laboratory areas clean and tidy, adhering to cleaning schedules and hygiene
standards.
• Identify and transport hazardous and contaminated waste to the appropriate quarantine
or disposal locations. Dispose of contaminated waste via autoclaving in accordance
with current procedures and assist senior staff with the collection and disposal of
hazardous chemical waste.
• Calibrate laboratory instruments at designated intervals, maintaining accurate
maintenance. Identify equipment issues, troubleshoot problems, and seek support
from senior colleagues when needed.
• Review environmental monitoring equipment data and take appropriate corrective
actions as outlined in equipment procedures when out-of-specification results are
observed.
• Follow the sampling plan and accurately log all testing samples into the QC Laboratory
Information System database.
• Perform Certificate of Analysis (CoA) checks upon receipt from the Logistics
Department.
•Conduct testing on raw materials, intermediate products, finished goods, end-of-shelflife samples, environmental samples, and water.
• Accurately document all test results and laboratory work in accordance with Good
Documentation Practices, ensuring traceability and supporting data analysis by senior
staff.
• Identify problems and apply appropriate troubleshooting methods, escalating issues to
senior staff when necessary.
• Participate in daily, weekly, and end-of-day shutdown procedures as part of the shift
rotation
THE PERSON
• Degree in Life Sciences or HNC Diploma in related discipline
• Previous laboratory work experience
• Proven ability to work to deadlines
• Attention to detail is a must
• Ability to work alone or as part of a team
• Willingness to undertake training to improve skills
• Full driving licence to be able to travel to other sites
In addition to the specified duties the employee is expected to perform additional tasks when
reasonably called upon to do so.
